Max's Battloid is destroyed during their escape, and the four humans are separated. Meanwhile Max, who had managed to sneak on board the ship before it went into hyperspace, breaks Rick, Lisa, and Ben out of their prison. The squad gives chase and breaks into the Zentraedi ship, but they meet their match when they find themselves in hand-to-hand combat with Breetai himself.īreetai, Exedore, and Dolza discuss the possibility of shrinking - or "micronizing" - Zentraedi soldiers to infiltrate SDF-1 in an effort to understand human culture and find the secrets of protoculture. Zentraedi fighter pods lay an ambush, capturing the Cat's Eye recon ship. While the battle fortress attempts to recover from the damage, Lisa pulls recon duty, with Rick and his men chosen to act as escorts. Meanwhile, Breetai puts his plan in motion, firing a warning shot across the SDF-1 bow - but, acting counter to orders, Khyron uses the barrage as cover to destroy the SDF-1's radar tower. On SDF-1, the bridge crew are happy to finally receive communication from Earth - until they're ordered not to return just as yet, as they seem to be drawing the Zentraedi away. Breetai and Exedore agree that it may be a good idea to study humans up close, and make plans to capture some for study on their ship. With the beauty pageant recordings destroyed in their battle with Rick Hunter, the three recon pilots Bron, Rico, and Konda are at a loss to explain what they saw. To destroy the mines, Captain Gloval orders Lisa to overload the base's furnace - eradicating any hope she may have of finding her fiancé. The Zentraedi spring their trap, using gravity mines to keep SDF-1 pinned to the ground. The SDF-1 touches down near the base to investigate and replenish supplies, and Lisa enters the base to see if she can find any sign of her lost love. When the SDF-1 receives the distress call, Lisa begins to hope that her fiancé, who had been stationed at the base, might still be alive. To Exedore's astonishment, the division Breetai has called in for this job is under the command of Khyron, a reckless captain with such utter disregard for life and protocol that he willfully sacrifices his own men to get the job done. ![]() ![]() Little do they know that the signal is fake, part of a trap laid by the Zentraedi. When SDF-1 receives a signal from nearby Mars Base Sara, they decide to investigate - the base was thought to be destroyed during the last war. Much of the city is destroyed yet again, but the enemy is beaten back - for now. Pushed to the brink, Gloval executes the transformation maneuver. Breetai decides to deploy a small force to attack the SDF-1 as a test of the humans' capabilities. His research has also turned up a warning that the Zentraedi are to avoid all contact with micronians. On the Zentraedi flagship, commander Breetai is informed by his advisor Exedore that their human adversaries are "micronians" - a fraction of the Zentraedi's size. The only way to reconnect the guns is to use the ship's modular capabilities - essentially transforming the fortress, a risky maneuver. Meanwhile, the captain meets with the chief engineer, who informs him that the loss of the warp system has disconnected the guns from the ship's power source. Rick overhears a conversation with Minmei, and he's surprised to hear her say that they're just friends, despite everything they went through. Life is slowly returning to normal on the ship even Minmei's family's restaurant is reopening the day after she and Rick were rescued.
